Job description

Our in house design team create products for a growing portfolio of our own and licensed brands, which cover a varied range of categories, including fashion, performance sports, character licensing, core sports and fitness.

We are a wide-ranging department that cover apparel, graphics, hard goods and accessories.

Sophie Davison – Design

I started working for Sports Direct as a junior apparel designer in 2009 – straight after I finished University. The team was quite small and I designed everything from fashion ranges such as Kangol and Golddigga to sports and performance brands such as USA PRO and Karrimor.

As the design team grew it split into specialist areas- core sports, performance sports, fashion design, and Character design as well as a great team of graphic and product designers. I worked on the fashion team for the next 5 years, working my way up to designer level and having a junior designer working with me on our fashion brands.

I have recently moved in the design team again, and am now in charge of football and other licenced apparel. Designing football kits, fan-wear for the stadium shops, RFU rugby, UEFA and many other big licences.

As a designer at Sports Direct no two days are the same. I am involved in all areas of the design process- including researching, designing ranges, liaising with the in house factory agents to ensure the designs are interpreted correctly, and approval of colours and samples. It’s great to see a design go from an idea to a finished garment in store and the excitement of this never gets old!

I have been on some amazing research trips and trade shows in the UK and abroad, to places including New York, L.A and Germany, which is hard work but a great part of the job! I have also been rewarded for my efforts with tickets to football games, being selected to go to the annual conference in Newcastle and the life changing bonus scheme.

It’s amazing to see how the company has grown over the years, I love my job and am proud to be part of such a great team.
